1. Where can I purchase Cambridge flatware?
Most major retail stores in America carry our products, including Crate and Barrel, William Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Neiman Marcus, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target Stores, Kohl’s, Bloomindales, Dillard’s Dept Stores, J.C. Penney, and Walmart. Other ways to purchase our flatware and accessories is by calling us direct at (973) 227 4400 and asking for a Customer Service representative; on Monday through Friday: 9:00am- 5:00 pm EST or online at our web site www.cambridgesilversmiths.com.
2. What “grade” of stainless steel is best for me?
In order to qualify as “stainless steel”, there must be at least 11.5% chromium contained in a steel alloy. All of our products use a minimum of 18% chromium. We offer three grades of stainless steel which are represented by the percentage of chrome (and, in two grades, nickel) used in the steel composition of our products. Chrome helps to make the steel more resistant to corrosion and nickel helps to provide a softer, silvery tone. The first level is “18/10 stainless” which means that at that grade there will be a mix of 18% chrome and 10% nickel. Next is “18/8 stainless” which includes a combination of 18% chrome and 8% nickel. The last grade is “18/0” which has 18% chrome and no nickel. All of these grades meet the highest quality standards when it comes to fighting corrosion and can be used on a regular basis.
3. What does the term “gauge” mean?
Gauge refers to how thick a given utensil is. As a result, a dinner fork will have a higher gauge than a salad fork because it is thicker. As one would expect, the higher the gauge, the more expensive a particular design or pattern will be. It is important, however, not to base your purchase decision solely on gauge since being thicker doesn’t always mean it’s better. It really is a matter of how the selected utensil feels in your hand, your sense of style and choice of pattern.
4. What about the different types of “finishes”?
What type of finish you choose can often be a reflection of your lifestyle or the intended use of the flatware you buy. If you want to use the flatware for more formal occasions, you will want a polished finish that is more classic looking. If you desire a pattern than is more contemporary and softer in appearance, then you might prefer a matte finish. Many customers prefer a brushed finish because it doesn’t show scratches easily as a result of heavy usage. Whichever you choose, if the stainless is of the same grade, the flatware will last for the same amount of time.
5. What else should I know in order to buy the stainless flatware that is just right for me?
